Tamron 18-400 used on Sony a7 and a6000 with Metabones IV.

Let me start by clarifying that the rating provided is based on use with Sony products via the Metabones IV adapter.
One of the benefits of the Sony products is their size, but carrying around 2 or 3 lenses when hiking, cycling, or doing anything active really negates the size advantages. My main purpose in purchasing this lens was to carry a single camera and a single lens for certain activities. This lens, while larger then the normal APS-C lenses from Sony covers a ridiculous range of 18-400 in a rather compact size, so other then an ultra-wide prime, what other lens would you possibly need to carry? The APS-C format takes the 400 to 600 and I was able to capture some fantastic shots at this range of the recent solar eclipse. It also has a Minimum Object Distance of 17.7in which allows for some great macro shots. With the Vibration Compensation system, I also noticed some sharper telephoto shots, and sharpness across the entire range is improved over the kit Sony APS-C lenses. The build quality and new look for Tamron lenses is great, and even offers weather sealing.
The only reason I am rating this lens 4 stars is because of the use on Sony cameras. TAMRON, please make an adapter like Sigma has done with the MC-11, E-Mount has been proven, and demand is only increasing. The Auto-Focus lags when you get above 150mm. In most situations it will actually find the focus, while previous generation lenses from Tamron, Sigma, and others would never find focus. I have tested the adapter using Metabones Software Version 57 on the 150-600, and the auto focus is now really fast, where-as when I previously tested it on Version 54, it would never even find focus at the long distances. I can only hope that the next few updates from Metabones may correct some of this AF lag, and thus I would give this lens 5 stars. The 150-600 also has a switch where you can limit the focal ranges so it doesn't hunt across the entire range, and I don't understand why they didn't incorporate that into this lens with is extremely large range of 18-400(27-600).
The last part of this review I want to focus on Art's specifically. (5 STARS)
This lens has been essentially unavailable through my local retailers and online since it's release. Fortunately I have frequented Art's when in the Milwaukee area, so I figured I would check their site. Their online store listed this lens as available, and after emailing them, I got a prompt response back that there was one lens remaining in stock from their first shipment they received 8/14. I ended up emailing back and forth with Tony M, and placing the order that same day on 8/16, and I had the lens in my hands in Iowa the next afternoon on 8/17 with their free shipping. IF Amazon had this lens in stock, I would have had to wait at least an additional day or two, and also had to pay tax on this item, but with Art's since I am out-of-state there is no tax. So you really cannot get a better deal and experience then purchasing from Art's.
